Met Office chief forecaster Neil Armstrong described Storm Goretti as a "multi-hazard event" with heavy rain, strong winds and snow. He said 5-10cm of snow is likely widely in Wales and the Midlands, with 15-25cm and a potential for up to 30cm in some areas.
Additionally, some areas could see snowfall before December ends. The Met Office's forecast for Tuesday to Thursday suggests that conditions will become "colder later in the week with brisk northwesterly winds bringing increasingly wintry showers to the north".
Storm Goretti is the first named in 2026, according to the Met Office, and it is set to develop "rapidly" as it approaches the UK starting Thursday, January 8, 2026. This has led to a Yellow Weather Warning for West Yorkshire - including Huddersfield - due to the storm.
